What is Bible Quizzing?

Bible quizzing is a competitive Bible study that encourages young people to learn God's Word both individually and in small groups. It covers one portion of the Bible at a time.

Basic Rules

  1. Each team is made up of three to four quizzers.
  2. Each round consists of 20 questions with three teams competing at a time (or 15 questions for a two-team quiz.)
  3. The quizmaster asks the questions word for word from the BSB (Berean Standard Bible) text, adding only an interrogative (who, what, where, when, how).
  4. Quizzers sit on pads connected to lights which turn on when the quizzer jumps, indicating who jumped first.
  5. When the quizzer jumps, the quizmaster stops the question and the quizzer must finish the question and give the answer within 30 seconds.
  6. Points are awarded as follows: 20 pts for a correct answer and negative (-) 10 pts for an incorrect response.
Benefits

All too often we rush to understand what the Bible means and how to apply it before we know what it says. Bible quizzing focuses on studying and memorizing God's Word so that students develop the Biblical foundation needed for spiritual growth. This knowledge of the Bible will remain in their hearts and minds the rest of their lives. In addition to spiritual growth, establishing a pattern of regular Bible study teaches young people good work ethics and discipline, which can be applied to other areas of life, such as their schoolwork.

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thought and attitudes of the heart."
     Hebrews 4:12

Fun and Fellowship

The monthly quiz meets are great opportunities to make new friends from differing church, economic, and racial backgrounds. Quizzing fosters friendly competition and unity within the body of Christ as students grow in their knowledge of God's Word.

Through Thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
     Psalm 119:104-105

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
     Psalm 119:9-11
