SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN BIBLE QUIZZING

Mission Statement

Mission: To promote Bible knowledge and spiritual growth among the youth of southwest lower Michigan through the Bible quiz program.

Bible quizzing uses competition to encourage youth to study and learn God’s Word. Teams from local churches compete over their knowledge of a specific Bible portion. With the eight year cycle, a child starting in 5th grade will by the end of 12th grade study Matthew, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, I and II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, Hebrews, James and I and II Peter.

Bible knowledge is foundational for spiritual growth. The simple three-step process of the study of the Bible is:

  1. To know what the Bible says.
  2. To know what it means.
  3. To “know what it means to me”; i.e. to apply it to our everyday lives.
To rush to what it means before knowing what it says is the first step to the misinterpretation of Scripture. Bible quizzing emphasizes step one by laying the foundation of Bible knowledge so that a more accurate understanding of the truths of the scriptures takes place. Bible quizzing does not do the whole ministry of spiritual training for youth in a church; rather it assists churches in the specific area of Bible knowledge, thereby assisting in the spiritual growth of youth.

The goal of Southwest Michigan Bible quizzing is to involve as many youth as possible into the study of the Bible through the Bible quiz program, to create interest in the study of God’s Word, and ultimately move youth toward spiritual maturity.
